Excitement is weird right? A month…two weeks ago, we were trying to create ways to justify settling. To say, ya know this is the better of the two old dudes. One who is not doing anything to stop a tragedy and actively assiting in it vs a racist criminal dictator wannabe who happens to be a rapist and child sex abuser.
Vibes were bad.
Then stuff changed. Biden decided he wasn’t the guy anymore and endorsed Vice President Harris (always put respect on her title journos) and brat summer commenced.
A party coalesced around VP Kamala. Screw that, it felt like a country did. Spearheaded by Black women— because they ALWAYS come thru and save us— the calls began.
Black women—$
Black men—$
White women— $
White ‘dudes’— $$$ (yeah income inequality and sexism crated that)
Then it kept going!
Progressives—
Comics— $
REPUBLICANS FOR HARRIS even started a call.
Idk guys, it kinda feels like NOT having a call for Harris makes you…weird.
So the vibes felt good but there were still some question marks. The biggest ones were kinda related. WHO would be the VP and what would it signal about the direction the Vice President may take with respect to the current admin who on really important issues to some of us…ain’t great.
As the veepstakes took off, we saw the parade of men auditioning to be her Mr. White.
And while I am personally happy the country got to see and understand my governor, Andy Beshear, I am equally happy with the choice she made.
Tim Walz is a signal. A breath of fresh air for many of us younger voters and the progressive wing of the party. Is he the best on everything…nah. But RIGHT NOW what we needed to see was evidence that the campaign was listening.
Tim Walz expressed support for the Uncommitted Movement. Saying that it had a right to be heard and listened to. He, unlike Shapiro, didn’t condemn student protestors. None of the other VP candidates had shown active support for such a big contingent of voters and honestly the new wave of the future.
41 million new gen-z voters will be eligible to vote in November. It was wise to not completely write them off and lose that free tik-tok algorithm magic you got going right now.
Some prominent people have already tried to taint things and say Shapiro not getting picked is anti-semitic. Nah— we aren’t doing that here. In the words of my governor when people wanted to gather during covid— you can’t be doing that.
The Harris team is listening to the people. Not donors. Not the elite. Not the Nate Silvers and their supposed electoral math.
They are in it to win it and including the people for once.
There is work to do—yes. But excitement is here, and it is a little weird.
