Oh They Skurred
Going Swimmingly Over There
I had no idea what I wanted to write about to start the week.
Not that there is an absence of news— because there isn’t— but because all the news is so ridiculous and stupid it is hard to pick ONE.
But First—Black History Month
I would be remiss to not at least shout out one more time Black History Month, just because I feel it was overshadowed by Extreme Racism: Home Edition.
The only thing I wanted for February besides—ya know an end to racism and white supremacy especially at the highest levels— is for the extraordinary work of so many Black heroes to be discussed. On every scale, there are people doing magnificent things to better our world, and you probably never heard of them. Look them up sometime.
One personal hero of mine is also a friend. Sadiqa Reynolds is well known to people here in Kentucky but the work she has done and her tremendous impact is basically immeasurable. I felt that insane impact this morning— as I was on my run to the gym, I passed six women from Clemson’s Women’s Track Team. Out on a run themselves before, and this is wild to even say, THE ACC TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Louisville Kentucky.
That does not happen in this city, state, or region without her excellence. She birthed that beautiful track facility for a community that was long left behind and disregarded. My friend is Black history. And there are more like her around this country, you just don’t know about them. Google is free! (at least for now)
Another thing worth mentioning is Sophia Rosing has requested an early release from prison. For those unfamiliar with Sophia.. she became famous a few years back for being super racist in the University of Kentucky dorms. Because…of course.
In case you forgot how bad it was:
Now— I saw the news of her request and had a hot take, as I thought about Black History Month and all.
The carceral system is stupid anyway. Let her first paper be about Sadiqa… she can copy and paste what I wrote above to get started.
Oops..What I Meant to Write About
The purpose of this piece was to discuss the recent town hall cancellations by GOP members of congress because they are now scared of their own people. It is almost like they are doing things that are….wrong? If only there were a way to rectify that feeling by your constituents…
Weird country that you feel you should be able to do bad things to people who voted for you to represent THEIR interests then run from them when they want to call you on it.
Of course Sunny D-Skin Don had to weigh in:
Of course it has nothing to do with planes falling out the sky, a possible recession, bowing down to Putin, and the requirement of a loan or the equivalent of first and last month’s rent to buy eggs. Paid troublemakers…got it.
But this is where we are. Those in power are doing nothing good but want to run around like they are saving the world instead of just the interests of a few white countries.
Keep them running. Keep them scared. Then vote them out.
