In THIS White House
Ainsley Hayes...where are you
One of my favorite shows of all time is/was the West Wing.
I know it is popular now to dunk on TWW but it wasn’t my favorite because I thought politics would be like that—ever. I know we as a society suck too much to create a country where the good guys win, the good policies prevail, and honesty is rewarded in the end. Sure, President Bartlet did have some negative polling after that MS stuff leaked and led to his censure….but overall his office had broad support.
This country isn’t that great and I’ll never get to be Sam Seaborn
Sigh…
But I was thinking about TWW when I saw the super good news that the incoming Cheeto-Skin-in-Chief and his team were beginning to question civil servants about their allegiance to Dorito Dude.
As a little explainer..the US government employs more than 2 million civil employees in the US alone.
Some people, work in partisan positions that are left up to the will of the administration in charge. That comes with it. I’ve had political jobs where this was the case. But a lot of them, and with the interest of keeping the country—ya know, working— don’t have that designation and instead devote their fealty to the Constitution or the agency they work for.
Think about it, if EVERYONE was political then what happens on Jan 20th at 11:59am every new administration? There are so many things that need to be done that require continuity and we have thousands of people doing those jobs.
But Mango Mussolini is a different breed of unintelligent. The country doesn’t matter as much to them — just power and undying loyalty so they want to purge people who dare to be different which is their right.
Remember when Project 2025 was an election issue and Carrot King was like…I don’t know her!
Well a big part of 2025 was instituting a way to fire the civil servants…so the fact that he has hired the bulk of the writers and architects of that nonsense to his team—maybe he DID know her.
Back to TWW. On one of my favorite episodes, Ainsley Hayes is hired to work within the White House of President Jed Bartlet. There was one hiccup— she was a Republican and they were all Democrats. But it didn’t matter, she was smart and talented— and her dream had been to work for her country. One of the best episodes was when she came to that realization that she would be employed by THIS white house:
I am a cynic through and through but I also know people like Ainsley. Maybe not as smart, but they care about the mission over the man.
The problem is the orange overlord doesn’t believe in or understand separation from preservation of self. AKA he is self-centered.
I am an advocate for honesty at all times, but for all the civil servants who are being asked by the administration henchman who they voted for or how they identify…do like they do all the time on Faux News, just lie. Because for now, even the Ainsleys of the world will be cast aside.
