Hot Dogs for $1.50
Glizzy Glizzy Glizzy..can't you see
I wrote about this before, but remember in 2020 when all the white people and corporations started ‘listening and learning’ and said racism was real?
The most courageous of them even posted black squares on IG.
Companies were quick to create DEI offices and commit to better hiring practices and the whole giving people a chance thing.
And again, not to belabor something I ALREADY posted on here— but we all knew what was going to happen and then it did. Those jobs went to white people, the ones that didn’t were quickly dissolved and the operations ceased.
But then Orangebob Widepants got elected and the companies had to one up their commitment to white supremacy.
Tarjay how COULD YOU? And not only are they not hiring non-white people now, they are also like— nah we don’t need to sell that Black crap anymore.
Not Just About Stuff
Something many of you will not understand is we don’t just want Black or non-white brands just BECAUSE they are Black. I know some people like to cry reverse racism (which isn’t a thing) but fact is— for a lot of products we need them made with US in mind.
Most things are made and tested for white use. That is why we have so many issues with medicine, pharmaceutical companies create drugs that work for white people and then they just are like…well it should work for them too…right…right..
I recently got a new acid for my skincare that was NEVER prescribed to me but works much better than stuff before. My dermatologist never mentioned it, neither did an esthetician I went to, it was Black doctors I saw on Instagram. Who created it THEMSELVES for BLACK SKIN.
But the Targets of the world would rather show fealty to racism than to…idk serve the purpose of a store and sell things.
Other People Suck Too
It isn’t just Target. Many other large corporations are ready to remove the proverbial black square from their social media profiles too.
Meta was quick to join the fray. Coming out to say they won’t value diversity in hiring or in vendors they use. They are closing offices and immediately ending the diverse slate of candidates policy.
Amazon cut their practices and claims to now be focused on ‘proven programs’ even though Black people built this country, idk how much more proving you need Jeff.
Twitter was like— nah we stopped pretending diversity was good as soon as rocketboy bought us.
It’s weird— some of the largest companies in the world seem to be bowing down to something but I can’t put q(white) put my finger on it…
Those are not the only ones…those are just some of the ones playing house with President Tangerine.
Other companies who felt the need to not only stop but come out to make it a whole thing:
McDonalds (validation for all the Black mom’s who asked if you had McDonald’s money.)
Ford (Detroit…)
Walmart (huh?)
Lowes (Black CEO…man)
Harley Davidson, Tractor Supply, John Deere ( lol)
Others I’m sure.
One Company Stands Tall
Through it all, one company stands out so far. Costco said, nah bruh we good.
Costco was already iconic for the CEO refusing to raise the price of the hot dogs..like ever. But sticking with their ‘real one’ status they also made very clear that they value diversity and that is why they are consistently voted one of the top places to work— and people who work there STAY there.
In a world full of Walmarts and Targets—be a Costco.
Yesterday in Harlem, civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton led a ‘buy-in’ with over 100 Black leaders at their local Costco.
I am renewing my Costco membership TODAY and ceasing my drive up orders from Target. Sucks but gotta stand on business (as the kids say) with this one.
In a time when the Citrus in Chief is issuing 10232132 Executive orders a day that are racist, we have to do what we can to contribute.
And just because— HERE is a link to sign up for a Costco card AND get $20 back to spend there.
The world is rough. This country is rough. The little things are all we got right now, including $1.50 hotdogs.
