Why is he messaging me so late?
Well if you are reading this and it is late—that is on you.
Why am I sending this so ‘late’ well, first of all, time is a social construct so get over it. And, two, I am traveling for a work conference and just sitting down in the room getting to my other responsibilities after an incredible opening session.
The conference is called Facing Race and is put on by Race Forward. If you don’t know them, you should CHECK THEM OUT…now.
Okay, are you done looking at their site and donating them money? Welcome back!
This conference theme this year is so necessary and was made before the catastrophe that was the 2024 election. This year’s theme is Our Power Our Solutions— which is coming at a time when many of us feel so powerless and in need of something, anything, to move us forward. I am thankful to be in a place where the focus is on harnessing the power we have and finding solutions within us and the people who will help power that movement.
I personally need this. I have messaged people I look up to and respect asking their thoughts on what do we do? How can I help? Where do we go?
I know I am not alone and the next few days, over 4000 other people will be in this space trying to find and offer solutions.
I plan on TRYING to give a rundown of things I learn at the end of the days just for those who may be interested but couldn’t make it out.
For now— I do want to share a bit of day one here in St. Louis—an appropriate setting as we mark 10 years since the murder of Michael Brown Jr.
Fall is falling in the Lou today so had to take a few pics.
And lastly, while many people are feeling the darkness of the moment we are in, I appreciate that this conference also wants to spark joy, and the opening ceremony was closed out by the amazing Kode Redd dance company that may have put the final nail in the coffin for Drake.
The best parts I was too busy enjoying to record..fwiw.
More later.
PS…Nelly is not anywhere to be found.
