Catching Up

This week will be a bit of self promotion (argh) and a bit of the goings on in the world today (more argh) if that is cool.

First…self promotion.

Big(ish) news— aside from here you can look forward to consistently seeing my writing over at The Progressive Magazine. Your boy has a column called “The Equity Docket” so please go check that out and subscribe to The Progressive…they send actual print magazines and always have pretty cool art and insightful pieces.

My most recent piece can be found ONLINE over there and talks about what I wanted to call “Black Math” which explores how when it came to counting humans in the US— initially Black people were considered three-fifths (3/5) of a person and now— with racist redistricting efforts we will be reduced to one-fifth (1/5) or in some cases one-sixth (1/6) as racists try to further dilute votes to limit democracy.

Speaking Of Racist Anti Democracy

The DOJ and the guy DEFINITELY NOT ON THE EPSTEIN LIST have sued to stop California from engaging in redistricting mid-decade to counteract Texas being racist and doing mid-decade redistricting to erase the Black members and pick up five republican seats.

It is weird because Texas drew their racist maps at the umm…request of Trump and the DOJ.

Odd.

1. They are some racist hypocrites.

2. What is with that hat?

Speaking of Hypocrites

I hope people have seen this viral story but if not…I want to amplify it here.

If you are unaware— the government was shut down for quite some time. Before spineless democrats caved—due to them being privileged white people and BOUGHT by the airline industry— and part of that caused delays in SNAP benefits. I wrote about that here and in the Louisville Courier Journal.

Well as people were unable to eat and feed their kids, a ‘semi-local’ Kentucky woman on TikTok decided to call churches around country asking for help with baby formula posing as a woman in need.

These “pro-life” churches with tax exempt status and tons of money were quick to help this woman and her young baby right?

Wrong…

Here are the results:

• 100% of Mosques said YES

• 100% of Buddhist temples said YES

• 27% of Christian churches said YES

And I will say this with no editorializing…

Of the 33 ‘Christian’ churches called only 9 offered to help and THEY ALL WERE BLACK CHURCHES. All the white churches and mega churches said…nah you are on you own.

Take that as you will.

Ain’t That America

Thinking about the hypocrisy of fighting to make sure white people get representation in government at the expense of everyone else and the stated intentions of this administration to take us back to Christian Ideals—- and thinking about the results of the TikTok church calls and the fact that only the Black churches wanted to help and all the other faiths wanted to help…makes me think maybe this country is a Christian nation— at least the way white christian nationalist have decided it should be practiced.
