A week ago at this time, I was walking around Chicago with a hoodie that simply read “VOTE” a reminder to those who had not yet done so to..ya know hit that up. I had optimism, long lines at each precinct I passed gave me hope for a positive result—a result that would send a resounding defeat to hate and vitriol.
Boy was I wrong.. like..Kristi Noem in charge of a dog daycare wrong. Wait— she will be head of Homeland Security? We doomed…
Look— WE all know what happened and no need to rehash it here. Actually, I am trying not to think about it. I wish I were a privileged white man who could know that no matter what happens the next four years I’m fine, but I’m not. I am one of the groups the citrus skinned man will undoubtedly persecute and disparage. I am statistically likely to be abused and possibly killed by the very police he wants to expand already overreaching immunity for. As I laid out in my post-election wrap up,
Sickness in America
The good brother John D. Marshall D. Ed. wrote recently on his substack about the bad apples and how this election highlighted the mere 4 out of 10 who chose goodness over hatred—the good apples. Well Dr. Marshall, my granny also made us keep the bad apples from the tree in her backyard—”them are cooking apples” she would tell me. Showing that even the most damaged or busted …
I’m legit scared. And in the past week, I have heard so many people who feel the same way or are making life changing decisions in preparation for January.
People are— freezing eggs, getting married sooner, looking for visas, etc. Remember when the last election finally ended, and people around the country drove around cheering. The cheers even made it around the world with cathedrals in Europe ringing bells in celebration.
Weird how this time the only people cheering are the Russian spy agencies and the rest of the Kremlin. In case you missed it in this whirlwind of a week look what happened YESTERDAY-
So on Veteran’s Day— the bone-spurs draft dodger was called out by a Russian spy chief and aide to the Russian dictator President saying basically this:
“Hey bro remember us? We helped you win the election now you owe us, not the voters.”
Seems cool.
This has been a crazy week that feels like years. It is hard to believe that less than a week ago I was naive enough to believe that some people actually learned something in 2020. To think that I had the audacity to believe my life was worth existing. To think that women would be valued by more than just a select few, and that white women would lie as brazenly as they did.
To that last part, I say— EFF them blue bracelets.
If you all wanted to really be allies to Black women..nvm you already know and if you don’t then you don’t want to.
We have a long road ahead of us. Hopefully we all make it to the finish but it will be a scary and challenging time. In this period, I hope we all find ways to cope and to build momentum to do more next time and to protect each other in the interim.
Let’s organize, start conversations, build power, and to think beyond ourselves a little better.
We can make it out of this darkness together, we made it 7 days we just have another 1460 to go. We got this.
